Marie Cassel is Chef /Owner of
Sweet Marie's Hawaii. She was born and raised in Philadelphia. Marie's
passion for fine food & wine inspired her to explore a cooking
In 1982 her career accelerated at the Philadelphia Reading
Terminal Market as Catering Chef for the American Ballet Company. In
1985 Marie moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue a career in Motion
In 1988 she decided to further her
culinary education and enrolled at University Los Angeles California in
their Culinary Arts Program. Marie spent 2 years studying Classic French
cooking techniques and the fine art & science of food & wine.
Marie was the Chef for 2 years at Bluewaters Terrace, a full service
caterer and special events center located in Redondo Beach, California
In 1992 Marie moved to Kauai, Hawaii. Several months after moving to Kauai,
Hurricane Iniki devastated the island. Marie volunteered to cook and
run the Red Cross kitchen in Waimea preparing 3700 meals per day for
the hurricane victims with the help of many volunteers and one rice
In 1993 Marie joined the team at "A Pacific Cafe" as Pastry
Chef, creating many unique desserts for several years.
Marie became passionate about developing Gluten-Free and Allergen Friendly food after finding out she was Celiac. She has spent
the past 20 years studying different dietary lifestyles, Atkins,
Zone, South Beach, Gluten Free, Low Sodium, Diabetic, etc. Marie has focused her culinary talents on recipe
development and testing, catering to a unique clientele whom have
certain dietary restrictions.

Marie has over 35 years experience in full-service
Special Event Planning/Coordinating & Catering. Marie has developed a signature line of Gluten-Free Desserts and is currently writing a Gluten-Free Cookbook.
Besides her passion for baking and cooking, Marie is a bird lover and shares her home with Lola, a White Fronted Amazon ! Marie enjoys movies - some of her favorite "foodie films" include: "Babettes Feast", "Tampopo", "Like Water for Chocolate" and "Chocolate' .
